General Healthcare Transportation  ·  Baltimore, MD

She didn’t want to miss the wedding.

For seventy-eight years, she has been there for her grandson — first steps, scraped knees, college graduation. Today, he’s getting married. And for the first time in her life, the only thing standing between her and the front row is whether someone can get her there.

The Morning Of

At 2:47 PM, Merit Care pulled up at the door.

She’d been ready since one. Hair done. The pearl earrings her late husband gave her on their fortieth.

The ride was on the calendar two weeks ago — a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, a pickup window planned around the ceremony start, and the family member coordinating the day kept in the loop the whole way through.

  • Wheelchair-accessible
  • Assistance through your door
  • Coordinated with the family

And She Made It

Front row. Right where she belonged.

When her grandson turned around to take his vows, the first face he saw was hers.

The vehicle that got her there is the same one that takes families to chemo, to physical therapy, to behavioral health visits, to the appointments that keep life moving. But sometimes the most important appointment of the year isn’t an appointment at all.

What General NEMT Means at Merit Care

Healthcare transportation, built for the days that matter.

Most days, we’re getting patients to medical appointments — chemotherapy, physical therapy, behavioral health, post-op follow-ups, discharge rides, lab work, imaging, specialist visits. But the way we build for those days is the same way we build for the family ones: wheelchair-accessible vehicles, assistance through your door, predictable pickup windows, and communication with the person coordinating the day.

We treat the ride like part of the care plan — because for the people we serve, it is.

What We Transport For

From routine care to the moments in between.

General NEMT at Merit Care covers the full week of healthcare transportation needs — medical, recovery, mobility, and the family events those routines make possible.

  • Oncology & infusion visits

Long infusion days handled with patience — including the ride home, when it matters most.

  • Hospital discharge rides

From the discharge door to the front door, with the unhurried support recovery deserves.

  • Post-op & surgical follow-ups

Comfortable, mobility-aware rides during the weeks recovery is still in motion.

  • Physical & occupational therapy

The two-to-three-times-a-week cadence rehabilitation depends on.

  • Behavioral health visits

Calm, discreet, predictable rides for therapy, psychiatric, IOP and PHP appointments.

  • Primary & specialist care

The regular check-ins that keep small things from becoming big ones.

  • Lab work & imaging

Quick visits handled with the same care as a long appointment day.

  • Senior mobility support

From home to clinic and back, with assistance through the door at every step.

  • The moments that matter

Sometimes the most important appointment of the year isn’t an appointment at all. Talk to us about it.

Why Families Choose Merit Care

Four reasons the ride feels different here.

01

Nurse-founded

Founded by Registered Nurses whose backgrounds include hospital and behavioral-health settings — the experience that shapes how every ride is handled.

02

Wheelchair-accessible

Vehicles built for mobility — with proper securement and patient, attentive support from the door to the vehicle and into the appointment.

03

Communication you can plan around

Pickup confirmations, changes, and arrival updates — sent to the person coordinating the day, not just the patient.

04

Built for routines

Package-based for recurring schedules. Single-ride a la carte when you only need one. We meet families where the schedule actually is.

How It Works

From the first call to the front row.

  1. 1

    Tell us the trip

The appointment (or event), the mobility needs, and who’s coordinating.

  2. 2

    We plan the pickup window

Built around the appointment, not against it — including the return.

  3. 3

    You hear from us

Confirmations, arrival, and any changes — not guesswork.

  4. 4

    Recurring or one-time

Pick the rhythm. We’ll hold it.

Package-based for recurring routines, a la carte for one-offs. See packages & plans →

Questions Families Ask

Good to know.

What is non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT)?

Non-emergency medical transportation — or healthcare transportation — is scheduled, non-ambulance transportation for people getting to and from medical appointments, recovery visits, and other care-related plans. Merit Care is a private-pay NEMT provider serving Baltimore and surrounding Maryland counties.

Are your vehicles wheelchair-accessible?

Yes. Our vehicles are wheelchair-accessible, with proper securement and attentive support from the door to the vehicle and into the appointment or event.

Do you wait during appointments?

We plan around the appointment length and coordinate the return trip. The goal is to build for the appointment rather than disappear in the middle of it.

Can you set up recurring weekly rides?

Yes — this is the heart of what we do. Recurring schedules for infusion, therapy, behavioral health, and other ongoing care, with consistent assignment where staffing allows.

Can you transport someone to a non-medical family event — like a wedding or a service?

Yes. As a private-pay provider, we can be arranged by a family for non-clinical events when mobility, accessibility, and attentive support are part of getting there. Just tell us the day, the location, and what’s needed.

Do you work with case managers and discharge planners?

Yes. We set up standing transportation with a single point of contact for hospital discharge teams, oncology navigators, behavioral-health programs, and clinics.

How does payment work?

Merit Care is private-pay. We offer prepaid packages built around recurring care routines and a la carte single trips for one-off needs. See the packages & plans page for current options.

What areas do you serve?

Baltimore Metro and the surrounding Maryland counties. Reach out and we’ll confirm coverage for your pickup and destination.

Ready When You Are

What’s the next ride that matters?

Tell us the day, the destination, and what’s needed. We’ll handle getting there — with the patience and communication your family deserves.
